Diamond waffle crochet pouch

Crochet pouch pattern - easy to make

Diamond Waffle Pouch is a super cute and textured crochet pouch that's just right for keeping your small things organized—like lip balm, earbuds, or even some crafty bits and bobs!

It’s made using the diamond waffle stitch, which I absolutely loved working with. It gives the pouch such a lovely, bumpy texture that looks way fancier than it actually is. πŸ™Œ

Funny story—I had this single-color yarn that I ordered by mistake along with some other colorful ones. When it arrived, I was like “Hmm... what do I even do with this?” πŸ˜…
Instead of returning it, I thought I’d try something new and make a pouch using a fun stitch—and honestly, I’m so glad I did because it turned out gorgeous! 😍

This is an intermediate-level pattern, so if you’ve got the basics down and want to try something a little more textured and interesting, this is a great project to try!

I’ve added a link to a diamond waffle stitch tutorial below if you want to get the hang of the stitch first. Once you learn it, you can make all sorts of things—like baby blankets, scarves, cushion covers... the possibilities are endless!

If you try this pouch, I’d love to see it! πŸ’• Share your project with me in my Facebook group—I always enjoy seeing your creations.
And hey, if you get stuck anywhere, feel free to message me. I’m happy to help!

BLO= Back Loop only

Patter Details -

  • This pouch is made using the diamond waffle stitch, which gives it a really cool texture. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried it before—it’s not as hard as it looks! If you’re new to crochet stitches, I’d recommend checking out a quick tutorial . It helps a lot.

  • You can also add a lining inside if you want—it makes the pouch feel a bit more polished and sturdy. But honestly, it’s totally fine without one too. The stitch itself is pretty thick, so the pouch holds up well even without lining.

Pattern -

Foundation Chain:

Chain 48 (that's 47 + 1 for turning).

Row 1:

1. Start in the 2nd chain from the hook, and make 1 single crochet (sc) in each of the next 45 chains.

2. In the last chain, make 2 single crochets (both in the same stitch).

3. Now, you're going to crochet along the other side of the chain (the bottom).

4. Make 1 sc in each of the next 45 chains on this underside.

5. In the very last chain, make 2 more single crochets.

πŸ‘‰ You should now have 94 single crochets total (45 on each side, plus 2 at each end).

πŸ‘‰ Your base is complete and ready for the next round!

---

πŸ“ Notes to Keep in Mind:

* While you're making the base of the pouch, here's a little trick to help you stay on track:

After you've done 47 single crochets along the first side of the chain, place a stitch marker in the 48th stitch (that’s the turn where you make 2 sc).
Then continue working around and, once you’ve made the next 48 single crochets on the other side, place another stitch marker in the very first stitch where you started.

This helps you clearly see where the front and back rows begin and end—it’ll make the rest of the pattern easier to follow!

* Also, super important:
You’ll be making the entire bag in BACK LOOP ONLY.
That means instead of inserting your hook under both loops of a stitch, you'll only go through the back loop.
This gives the pouch that nice textured, ridged look and a bit more stretch.

---

Now , start making rows-

🧡 Row 2:

1. Chain 2 — this will **count as your last stitch** for the back side of the pouch.

2. Now, continue by making double crochet (DC) stitches in back loop only all the way around the pouch base.

3. When you get to the end of the round, join with a slip stitch (SL ST) into the top of the starting chain 2.

---

πŸ”Έ Quick Note:

You should end up with 47 stitches on the front side and 46 stitches on the back side
That’s because the chain 2 at the start is already counted as one stitch for the back.

No stress if it sounds confusing at first — once you mark the stitches and go around the base, it’ll all start to make sense!

---

🧡 Row 3 – Starting the Diamond Waffle Pattern:

Okay, now the fun part begins—let’s start building that diamond waffle texture! Don’t worry, it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Just take it step by step:

---

1. Start with 3 single crochets (SC) in back loop only, as always.

2. Now we’re going to make a Front Post Treble Crochet (FPTR), but this stitch goes into the row below (Row 1), not the one you’re currently working on.

   * Skip 1 stitch in Row 1, and make a FPTR into the next stitch (the 2nd one), but don’t finish the stitch just yet.
   * Then, skip 3 more stitches in Row 1 and make another FPTR.
   * Now finish both stitches together (this creates that criss-cross diamond look!).

3. After that, make 3 more SC in the current row.

4. Then again, go back to the previous FPTR post (yes, the one you just made) and do another FPTR into that stitch, but don’t finish it yet.

5. Now skip 3 stitches ahead (in Row 1) and make another FPTR, then finish both together, just like before.

---

πŸ” Repeat this pattern —

3 SC, then FPTR combo, 3 SC, FPTR combo... — all the way across the front side of the pouch.

🧢 Back Side of the Bag:

Once you reach the back, just keep following the same stitch pattern all the way around using the back loops only.

---

πŸ“Έ Tip: If you’re a visual learner, check out the photo tutorial I’ve added for the stitch—seeing it in action helps a lot!

Row 4)

 Repeat row 2

Row 5)

🧡 Next Row – Building the Diamond Pattern:

Let’s keep going with that beautiful diamond waffle texture! Here’s what to do in this row:

1. Start with 1 single crochet (SC).

2. Then, make 1 front post treble crochet (FPTR) by inserting your hook around the FPTR from the previous row. (This helps build that criss-cross diamond effect!)

3. Now, make 3 single crochets (SC) as usual (in back loop only if you’re continuing the texture).

4. Next, make 1 FPTR into the FPTR from the row below, but don’t complete it just yet.

5. Then, make another FPTR into the next FPTR below, and now finish both together.

That’s your main repeat!

---

πŸ” Repeat this pattern all the way across the front side of the pouch:

1 SC, 1 FPTR, 3 SC, FPTR (half done), FPTR, finish together... and so on.

---

🧢 Back Side:
Once you finish the front, continue on the back side of the pouch by following the **same instructions as Row 5.

You’ll see the diamond pattern start to really pop as you go. Keep going—you’re doing great! ✨

---

Row 6-13)

 repeat 4 and 5 rows.

Row 14-16)

make single crochets in every stitches.
F/o. Weave the end.
sew zipper.

DONE ✅

✂️ Customize the Size of Your Pouch

Want to make your pouch smaller or bigger? No problem! You just need to adjust the starting chain a little.

Here’s how to do it:

* The pattern works in multiples of 4, plus 3 extra chains.
* After that, just add 1 more chain for turning (this helps start the first row).

---

 πŸ“ Examples:

* For a small pouch:
  ➤ 40 (multiple of 4) + 3 + 1 = 44 chains

* For a bigger pouch:
  ➤ 48 (multiple of 4) + 3 + 1 = 52 chains

So just remember the formula:

 πŸŽ― (Multiple of 4) + 3 + 1

This gives you the flexibility to make the pouch in any size you want!
